The central government has given the states till Saturday evening to make suggestions in the cabinet secretary’s meeting on Thursday on Lockdown 5. The meeting sought suggestions for improving the condition of the states. States have also been asked what new steps they want to take in their states after May 31.

Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gaba on Thursday held a meeting with Chief Secretaries and Chief Health Secretaries of all the states in the country on the status of the lockdown. This was the first time that the corporation commissioners of the states were also involved in the cabinet meeting.

Rajiv Gaba has met top officials of the states from time to time during the crisis and got full information from them. Earlier on May 17, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gaba had held discussions with top officials of the states. In the meantime, there was a discussion on allowing the states to run trains and a review of the efforts being made by the states to address the Corona crisis. It was then decided to extend the fourth phase of the lockdown to May 31.
