Modi government will provide free food to the poor, 80 crore people will benefit
The central government has once again announced the Prime Minister's Poor Welfare Food Scheme for poor families in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak. Under this scheme, the central government will provide 5-5 kg more free food to ration cardholders in the months of May and June. Under this, 80 crore beneficiaries will get benefits. In May and June 2021, 5 kg of free foodgrains will be made available to the poor. The government says the Prime Minister's Poor Welfare Food Scheme will cost more than Rs 26,000 crore.

The scheme was announced last year during the first wave of Covid-19 when a nationwide lockdown was imposed. PM Modi said that the poor got full support when the country was going through a difficult situation. The government will spend Rs 26,000 crore on this scheme. Many states are also demanding an economic package from the central government.
