Yang was overtaken on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index on Friday by India's Savitri Jindal, who has a net worth of $11.3 billion, thanks to her conglomerate Jindal Group, which is involved in industries including metals and power generation. It also slipped below fellow Chinese tycoon Fan Hongwei, whose assets come from chemical-fiber company Hengli Petrochemical Co.

It's been a nasty fall for Yang, who inherited his father's stake in the real estate developer in 2005, becoming one of the youngest billionaires on earth. She has been Asia's richest woman for the past five years, reflecting the rapid growth of China's wealth sector. Yang, now in his early forties, owns about 60 percent of Country Garden and 43 percent of its management-services unit.

Jindal, 72, is India's richest woman and the 10th richest person in the country of about 1.4 billion. She became the chairman of the Jindal Group soon after the death of her husband, founder OP Jindal, in a helicopter crash in 2005.
