The Central Government has urged the Delhi High Court to stop WhatsApp from implementing its new Whatsapp New Privacy Policy. The government said the new WhatsApp policy would increase the risk of citizens' data being misused.


An affidavit filed by Central Government in High Court

The central government filed an affidavit in the court hearing on Friday. In the affidavit, the central government said, "It is humbly prayed that WhatsApp may be banned by this honorable court from enforcing its new Whatsapp New Privacy Policy." Let me tell you that during the hearing on February 2, the court sought an answer from the Central Government on a petition challenging the new Whatsapp New Privacy Policy. The government has since filed its reply.


Dr. Seema Singh has filed the application

Dr. who filed an application in the Delhi High Court in this case. Dr. Seema Singh said WhatsApp had threatened users to give their consent to share data with Facebook or close their accounts after February 8. However, the policy has been banned till May 15 due to strong opposition from users.

 

Dr. Seema Singh said in the application that the law is very limited in relation to data. A work plan needs to be created to regulate it. The petition seeks directions from the court to the government to protect the data of citizens with all apps and organizations operating in India.

People demand a privacy policy option

The petitioner has also urged the High Court to give WhatsApp the option to withdraw its Whatsapp New Privacy Policy or opt-out of January 4, 2021, Privacy Policy. Those who have accepted the privacy policy should also be given the option to opt-out. Now, after receiving the reply from the Central Government, the High Court will hear the matter next.
