Earlier, the court had ordered to preserve 6 months of CCTV footage in police stations
It may be mentioned that, earlier on the petition of habeas corpus, the Gujarat High Court had ordered to preserve the CCTV footage of 6 months in the police stations. A young man and a young woman in Palitana were taken into custody by the police and a habeas corpus was filed in the High Court before they got married. It was submitted by the family that the police beat the youth badly in the police station. Complaining about this, the Gujarat High Court ordered the police station to present the CCTV footage.

The court ordered the preservation of CCTV footage in police stations on a habeas corpus petition. Gujarat High Court has ordered to preserve the audio-video for 6 months. The High Court said, keep CCTV footage in the police station as per Supreme Court guidelines. Let us tell you that earlier also the HC had ordered to keep the CCTV of the police station on.
However, the police argued in this matter that 30 days of CCTV footage is preserved. At that time, the court said that the CCTV footage of up to 6 months should be preserved. The High Court has also ordered the District Police Chief to submit a report identifying the officer who assaulted the police station.
